Todd Dills is a fiction writer, journalist and sometime publisher hailing originally from Rock Hill, S.C., and current living in Nashville, Tenn., with his wife and daughter. Born in 1976 to two South Carolina natives, he attended Winthrop University in his hometown, studying English, before pursuing an MFA in fiction writing at Columbia College in Chicago, Ill. There, he founded THE2NDHAND in the year 2000, assembling a crew of regular to semi-regular and first-time to established fiction writers in its print and digital pages through the year 2013.
Along the way, he edited and published two All Hands On (2004 and 2011) collections of new and previously published work from the periodical.
In 2006, his first novel, Sons of the Rapture (Featherproof Books), was released, followed in 2012 by the Triumph of the Ape (THE2NDHAND) collection of shorts. As of late November 2019, a second novel, Shining Man, was due from Livingston Press Dec. 30.
Also in 2006, he accepted a position with Overdrive magazine, where today he serves as Senior Editor. In 2014 his CSA’s Data Trail investigative series about the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s CSA program of carrier safety ranking received the highest honor is business-to-business journalism, the “Grand Neal” of the Jesse H. Neal Awards annual program, in 2014. Other honors include more than one Neal for best range of work across media platforms.
